OZARK, Mo. – The Lindenwood beach volleyball team (5-1, 0-0 OVC) picked up two more wins on day one of the Beach Bear Bash, defeating Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas. The 5-1 start is the best record through a season's first six matches in the program's four-year history. Â
Lindenwood defeated Eastern Kentucky 4-1 in their first ever match against the Colonels. Three of the Lions' four points were won in straight sets, with
Nyah Wilson and
Susanna Beretti taking the twos (21-12, 21-16),
Aubrey Sheppard and
Gabby Belcher winning the threes (21-14, 21-17), and
Myah Hough and
Dixie Farish prevailing at the fives (21-14, 21-15).
After dropping their first set,
Abby Jacobs and
Annalie McWhorter took the No. 1 pair 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-7) to secure Lindenwood's fourth point.
Lindenwood came back Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Central Arkansas for their second win in as many weeks against the Bears.
The Lions again recorded three straight set wins, with
Abby Jacobs and
Annalie McWhorter continuing to handle business at the ones (23-21, 21-10),
Susanna Beretti and
Nyah Wilson remaining undefeated at the twos (21-11, 21-15), and
Katie Bockhorst and
Lexie Schauffler bouncing back from a morning setback at the fours (21-10, 22-20).
Meanwhile,
Gabby Belcher and
Aubrey Sheppard took the No. 3 pairing in three sets with scores of 21-17, 20-22, and 15-12.
Next Up
The Lions will conclude the Beach Bear Bash with two more matches on Saturday. They will battle Southwest Baptist at noon before facing Missouri State at 4:00 p.m.
