The Lindenwood Shotgun Sports program had a busy weekend of competition with events scheduled in American Skeet, American Trap and International Trap September 8-11.
At the National Skeet Shooters Association U.S. Open in Waco, Texas, freshman Nick Boerboon led the Lions with four first place titles, winning the 20 Gauge Event, the Collegiate .410 and 20 Gauge Events and the AA High Overall Championship. He also set his personal best shooting 396 out of 400 targets.
Other top finishes included Wayne Kidd who placed second in the Collegiate 20 Gauge division, Ryan Smithart who placed third in the AA Doubles event, Santo Dragone who took fourth in the Collegiate Doubles event and Brian Foley who finished third overall among all collegiate shooters.
In the ladies division, after topping all other women in American Skeet at the 2011 National Championship as a freshman, Cassie Douglas began her sophomore campaign with a runner-up finish in the 20 Gauge Event.
Lindenwood had 10 American Skeet shooters among the over 240 entrants at the event.
At the Missouri Fall Classic American Trap event in Linn Creek, Missouri, Walt Reaster led the Lions with a perfect 100 out of 100 targets, winning the High Overall Award. Blake Fahmie, Chris Riley, Tyler Stein, and Scott Layman were close behind with scores of 99 and all four went to a shoot-off to determine final places. Fahmie won the shoot-off with a perfect score to take second while Stein ended up third.
On the women's side, Courtney Yates won high lady honors with 97 out of 100 targets and Lauren Mueller was close behind in second with 96.
First place college squad awards were given to Zach Bryant, Blake Fahmie, Jackson Hiegel, Chris Riley and Tim Varble. Second place college squad awards were handed out to Garrett Blankenship, Scott Layman, Logan Napoli, Zach Nannini and Walt Reaster. Lauren Mueller, Zach Brody, Tyler Stein, Phillip Benvenuto and Nicole Ogden picked up third place college squad awards.
Shotgun Sports has two events on the schedule September 22-25 as they travel to Tillar, Arkansas for the Delta Classic Sporting Clays event and to Kerrville, Texas for the Fall Selection Match, an International Trap event.
