The No. 18 Lindenwood women's golf team won its second tournament of the spring season on Monday afternoon when it captured the Missouri Western Invitational. The Lady Lions defeated nine other teams at the competition, including eight NCAA Division II programs.
Lindenwood had a four-shot lead after shooting a 324 during the first round. On day two, the Lady Lions bettered that by two strokes and won the tournament by 12 strokes over Concordia-St. Paul, a school receiving votes in the NCAA Division II national ranking. Among the other teams that Lindenwood defeated were three schools, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri, and Fort Hays State, from the MIAA, the conference that Lindenwood is joining in 2012-13.
Megan Burgess won medalist honors at the event. She shot a one-over 74 in the opening 18 holes, which was the best round of the tournament. She shot a 78 on day two and her total of 152 was the best score by five strokes.
Marcella Ax was runner-up after shooting rounds of 81 and 76 for a total of 157.
Julieta Rotzinger tied for third with a 159, including a 77 on day two of the event. Rounding out the team's scoring was
Gabi Hitch with a 178 and
Kasey McCammack with a 185.
Lindenwood will next compete in the Lindenwood Spring Invitational on April 11-12.
