The Lindenwood women's golf team finished the 2010-11 season on a high note after it shot its best round of the spring during the fourth round of the NAIA National Championships. The Lady Lions finished the national event in 17th place, their best finish under head coach
Abby Weber.
The Lady Lions opened the tournament with a 338, and improved on that for their final three rounds. Lindenwood shot a 323 in round two, a 332 in round before, and then finished with a 320 on Friday. Its final team score placed the squad in 17th place, two spots higher than the team was ranked prior to the tournament.
Megan Burgress led the team at the event with a four-round score of 314. She averaged 80.0 through three rounds and then concluded the year with a one-over 74 in the fourth round. She had a top-20 individual finish as she came in tied for 16th.
Marcella Ax shot a 323 at the event, including three rounds of 80 or better. She tied for 40th in the overall individual standings.
Julieta Rotzinger finished with a 327 after she improved her mark every single round. Rotzinger was 55th overall. Rounding out the team was
Kasey McCammack with a 353 and
Justine Decock with a 372.
Day One Recap
Lindenwood shot a 338 during the first round of the national championship. The team was within 11 shots of tenth-place in the team standings.
Burgress led the team on day one by shooting a seven-over 80. She was just one-over through nine holes after going out with one birdie, six pars, and two bogies. In the back nine, Burgress had four pars, four bogies, and one double bogey.
Julieta Rotzinger was second on the team with an 84. She opened the day with a birdie and had eight pars the rest of the way.
Ax and
Kasey McCammack both carded an 87 on the day. After just two pars through the first nine holes, Ax started to drop more in the final nine holes with five. McCammack's round was helped by a team-high two birdies on the day. Rounding out the squad was
Justine Decock who had a 92.
Day Two Recap
The Lady Lions were one of 21 teams that improved their scores on the second round of the tournament. Lindenwood shaved 15 shots off their round one score with a 323.
Both Burgress and Ax broke 80 on the day with identical 79s. Burgress was two-over after nine holes and finished six-over. Ax recorded a two-over for the final nine holes of the day. Rotzinger and McCammack had scores of 82 and 83, respectively, on the day. All four of those golfers improved their scores from round one with Ax improving by eight shots, McCammack by four, Rotzinger by two, and Burgress by one.
Decock shot a 95 for the second day of action, three shots more than her first round score.
Day Three Recap
Lindenwood received its best day from its top three golfers, but its other two golfers struggled which hurt the team score. The Lady Lions finished the day 332 and were 18th in the team standing.
Ax was the leader on the day. She bogied the first two holes of the day but played even for the 14 holes with two bidies, two bogies, and 10 pars. A double bogey at 17 put her four over and a par at 18 helped her close the round with a 77.
Burgress and Rotzinger both shot 81s for the third round. Burgress had three birdies and eight pars on the day. Rotzinger had two birdies and seven pars, including six straight pars to finish off her round.
McCammack shot a 93 for the final round that counted in the team standings. Decock had a 99 on the day, including her first birdie of the tournament on the par-three 16.
Day Four Recap
The final day started good for the Lady Lions with four of the five golfers shooting under par for the first hole, including an eagle by Burgress. Three golfers shot their lowest round of the tournament on the day, including two who had their lowest round of the season.
Burgress used the momentum of that eagle to shoot just one over for the fourth round. She added two birdies and ten pars, and did not have any score worse than a bogey. Burgress's round tied her best mark of the season, as did Decock's. Decock finished with an 86, six shots better than her previous best at nationals. She opened the day with a birdie and was five-over on the front nine and eight-over on the back.
Rotzinger and Ax both shot identical rounds of 80 on the day. Both had one birdie and ten pars on the day. McCammack finished the tournament with a 90.
