The Lindenwood women's golf team opened its spring season this week at one of the most competitive tournaments on its 2011-12 schedule. The Lady Lions were competing in the Point Loma Nazarene Super San Diego Championship and they finished 13th out of 19 teams.
The Lady Lions shot a 689 in their first tournament after the break, which was their third-best tournament score in six meets. The team opened with a 350 and then got 11 shots better during the second 18 holes. The winner of the competition was NCAA Division I Cal Poly with a team score of 634. Among the teams that Lindenwood finished ahead of was NCAA Division I Idaho State.
Megan Burgress and
Julieta Rotzinger both finished in the top 20 at the event. Burgress was 11th with a score of 162. Her best round came on Tuesday when she shot a 79. Rotzinger tied for 20th with a 167 after rounds of 86 and 81.
Marcella Ax broke 90 in both rounds and finished with a 173.
Abigail Beirne and
Kasey McCammack rounded out the squad with scores of 188 and 190, respectively.
Sarah Fraser competed as an individual at the event and shot a 203.
Lindenwood will be off for over a month until it plays in the Christian Brothers Spring Invitational on March 12-13 in Memphis, Tenn.
