The Lindenwood women's golf team finished first at the Southwest Minnesota Spring Invitational held at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The two-round tournament, hosted by Southwest Minnesota State, featured 10 competing schools with play concluding on Thursday afternoon. The first-place finish was the second of the season for Lindenwood.
The Lady Lions dominated the event, posting the top-two rounds of any participating team. Lindenwood began the tournament on Wednesday with a final score of 299, completing the first-round with a 16 stroke lead over second-place Minnesota State. The Lady Lions improved upon their first-round score by nine total strokes, posting a second-round total of 290, for a final team score of 589. Lindenwood won the tournament, finishing 42 strokes ahead of Ashland and Western New Mexico who tied for second-place. The second-round toal of 290, set a new program record for the lowest total team round.
Individually, the Lady Lions secured the top three spots, and placed all five competing golfers in the top seven.
Madelyn Piccininni shot even par for both rounds of the tournament, finishing in first place with a final score of 144. Finishing just behind Piccininni in second place was
Maggie Bryant. Bryant posted a tournament-low round of 71 during the second day of the tournament, which brought her final score to 147. Dakota Limkermann tied for third place, after shooting a 75 and 73 for a total score of 148.
Alanna Haynes and
Yolanda Rotzinger each ended the tournament with identical scores of 153, which left them tied for seventh place amongst the 61 competing golfers. Also competing for the Lady Lions were
Sydney Hawley and
Reagan Snavely, who finished t-12th and 30th, respectively. Hawley posted a final score of 158, following her 77 during the second round of play.
The Lady Lions will return to action on March 14-15 from St. Joseph, Mo. during the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Missouri Western.
