The Lindenwood track and field teams opened up their outdoor seasons on Friday in St. Louis at the Washington Mini Meet. The Lions and Lady Lions won nine championships, including eight in field events.
Seven championships were won on the women's side. Tatiana de Jesus Silva earned three medals, with a first in the javelin, second in high jump, and third in the 100m hurdles.
Michelle Kyle had two top-two finishes, winning the hammer throw and taking runner-up in the discus. She was second in the discus to teammate
Emily Montgomery. Other winners were
Allison Hinson in the shot put,
Kendra Smith in the long jump and triple jump, and
Anna Tyan in the high jump.
On the men's side, the winners were
Alex Armstrong and
Omar Es Salmouny. Armstrong won the javelin title, and Es Salmouny had the fastest time in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Erin Hodge had two second-place finishes for the women's team, taking runner-up honors in the long jump and 100m hurdles.
Tess Augustyn was second in the hammer, Regina Huesca-Barrales was second in the 400m hurdles, Tyan finished second in the triple jump, and
Anna-Lena Theisen was third in the 1,500m. In the relays, the women finished second in the 4x100.
Michael Mlambo had two top-three finishes, coming in second in the long jump and third in the 100m. Other runner-up efforts came from
Ryan Hermann in the discus,
Xavier Boland in the pole vault,
Akintunde Akinyemi in the high jump, and
Colin Cernik in the 800m.
Hunter Drew had a bronze finish in the 400m.
Lindenwood returns to Wash U. next Friday for the Washington Distance Carnival.
