Shotgun Sports Team Edges Texas A & M for 15th Straight National Title

The shotgun sports team trailed Texas A & M by one target with just American Skeet remaining for both squads, but Lindenwood outshot the Aggies by four in the final event on Saturday to claim the 15th straight title for the program at the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas.  The Lions finished with an overall score of 2,492 compared to Texas A & M with 2,489.  It was the smallest margin of victory for Lindenwood in any of its national championships.

With the top two teams so close heading into the final day, both had great pressure to perform in American Skeet, and the Lions delivered with 497/500, compared to 493 for the Aggies.  Senior Shawn Kemeter and junior Ryan Osborne led Lindenwood with two perfect scores of 100, followed by multiple scores of 99/100 from Lakota Adams, Jason Varozza, and Matt Griffiths. Michael Blazek also posted a score of 99 for the Lions.  Gabriella Griffin and Julia Stallings were the top females for Lindenwood, each with a score of 98/100. That earned them a spot in the shoot-off for second place.  Griffin ultimately took third while Stallings finished fourth.  Kemeter and Osborne also had to shoot-off for Men's American Skeet Champion against 12 other competitors with perfect scores.  At the conclusion, Kemeter finished third and Osborne took seventh.

In addition to the High Overall School title, the Lions also claimed the Division I School American All-Around championship, a new category introduced this year that combined team scores from American Trap, American Skeet, Sporting Clays, and the Super Sporting events.  Lindenwood finished with 1,917/2,000, also edging Texas A & M by four targets.
