The shotgun sports team won the ACUI Central Midwest Conference High Overall Team Championship October 12-13 at the World Shooting Complex in Sparta, Illinois. Competing in American Skeet, American Trap, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting, the Lions hit 1,657 out of 1,750 targets to finish 15 ahead of Emmanuel College in second and 18 ahead of the University of the Ozarks in third.
Individually, Lindenwood shooters accounted for three of four scores of 99 in American Skeet on Saturday.
Evan Mood,
Alex File, and
Brennan Lirette ultimately finished first, second, and third.
Olivia Stecker took the top spot in Ladies competition outright with a score of 97/100.
Sporting Clays proved challenging for the Lions with wind conditions affecting their flight.
Michael Blazek took advantage of an early flight for the best Lindenwood score of 93, giving him seventh place. Stecker just missed the medal round by a single target and settled for fourth with 86/100 in the Ladies event.
Windy conditions continued on Sunday as well as difficult sun angles that forced shooters to shoot Super Sporting differently. Lirette was one of two to hit 44/50, and ultimately finished second.
Gavin Scott and
Brandon Stone were among six with 43. Scott took fifth and Stone sixth overall.
In American Trap, two competitors from Grand View posted perfect 100's, leaving give Lions in an eight-way battle for third with scores of 99. In a shoot-off that lasted over 90 minutes,
Ryan Loveless battled for third place, with Stone taking fourth,
Anthony Pozzi seventh,
Evan Mood ninth, and
Sean Laurent 10
th.
In the Ladies Trap event, two Lions were among four with 99. In a shoot-off that went over an hour, Chrissy Byrd took third and Gianna Mitchell fourth.
When the weekend was concluded, Mood ran away with the Combined American Event title, hitting 198/200. Lirette finished third,
Tim Minkel fifth,
Ryan Osborne sixth, and
Ryan Loveless seventh. Stecker took second in Women's Combined American events with 194 while Byrd was fourth. In the Men's American and Sporting Combined competition, Lorette took first with 330/350. Stecker took third in the Ladies event with 325/350.
