Women's Golf Wins Bearcat Dual Gender, Men's Team Takes Third

The Lindenwood men's and women's' golf teams competed in the Bearcat Dual Gender on Monday at Far Oaks Golf Club in Collinsville, Ill.  The women's squad posted a 906 through three rounds to claim the title by 11 stokes.  The men's team took third place after shooting an 878 through the 54-hole tournament.
 
McKenna Montgomery shot a 219 across her three rounds, winning her second tournament of the season by just one stroke.  After shooting a 77 in round two, Montgomery bounced back with an impressive seven-stroke improvement to earn first place.  On the men's side, Joe MacNeil took seventh place to lead the Lions with his 215 for the tournament.  MacNeil shot back-to-back 71 scores in the final two rounds, finishing just eight strokes back from the champion.
 
The women's team sat in first place after the first round, posting a 303 to take a 10-stroke lead.  The men's team was in second place, just seven strokes back of the lead after firing a 290 as a squad in the opening round.  Both teams got underway with round two on Monday, but due to darkness the players were unable to complete the second round.
 
DAY TWO WOMEN'S OVERVIEW
Montgomery was on a roll on the front nine of the final round, as she registered four birdies.  Montgomery tallied another birdie on hole 12, but a triple-bogey would be her only blemish of the day as she maintained her dominance to win the Bearcat Dual Gender.
 
At the end of the tournament, Montgomery compiled 12 birdies across three rounds.  Haupt had four birdies in her second round, but posted just one birdie in the final round and fell to a tie for sixth place.  Noelia Rodriguez Chicote posted scores of 75 and 74, respectively to close out her tournament with a four-place improvement to 13th place.
 
DAY ONE WOMEN'S OVERVIEW
Haupt led the tournament with a 70 in her first round.  Haupt held a two-stroke lead on teammate McKenna Montgomery who shot even par through 18 holes.  With a field of 48 golfers, the top seven players at the conclusion of round one were separated by just five strokes.  Addasyn Zeller (+8), Alexis Montgomery (+9), and Rodriguez Chicote (+10) rounded out the top five for the Lions after the opening round.
 
Haupt compiled four birdies on the Monday, three of which came on par-3 holes.  McKenna Montgomery registered five birdies to her first-round scorecard, including on the four on the first nine holes on the course.  Montgomery tore up the par-5 holes, as she birdied three out of the five on the scorecard.
 
DAY TWO MEN'S OVERVIEW
MacNeil scored just two birdies in the second round as he shot a 75, but rebounded with a strong final round.  MacNeil tallied two birdies on the front nine, and registered an eagle on the par-4 15th hole.  For the second-straight round, Alvaro Puchades eagled the par-5 first hole in his second round.  Lucas Allder and Liam Bentein each shot even par in the final round to help bring the Lions to a third-place finish.  Bentein finished in ninth place for the Lions after shooting a 220 through three rounds.
 
DAY ONE MEN'S OVERVIEW
MacNeil was hot on Monday, as he registered a 69 to shoot three-under par.  MacNeil was just two strokes behind the leader after the first round.  John Gardner posted a 72 in his first round on Monday, which set him in a tie for sixth place.  Puchades (+2) and Bentein (+3) helped Lindenwood hold second place in the team standings after round one.
 
MacNeil played great golf on Monday, as he tallied six birdies on the day.  On the final nine holes on the course, MacNeil shot three under, with a string of three birdies in four holes.  Gardner started the front nine with back-to-back birdies, but saw two bogeys shortly follow.  Gardner regrouped and played even par from hole seven on.  Puchades had the only eagle on the day, which was a three on the first-hole par-5.
 
DAY TWO INDIVIDUAL ROUND
Caleb Picker roared back from 12th place to a first-place finish in the individual round on the men's side.  Picker shot an 81 in the first round, then fired a 69 in the second round which was the best one-round score in the individual tournament by three stokes.  Jordan Breen finished in second place after shooting a 151 in the 36-hole tournament, just one shot back from Picker.  Robert Dean took fourth place, while all five Lindenwood golfers in the individual tournament placed in the top-10.
 
DAY ONE INDIVIDUAL ROUND
In the individual round at Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights, Ill., Becca Oertel shot a 79 to hold a nine-stroke lead over the field.  On the men's side, Lindenwood holds the top-three spots on the leaderboard, led by Dean who shot a 72 in round one.  Adam Bain posted a 74, while Breen shot a 76 in the first round.  The individual portion of the tournament will conclude with round two on Tuesday.
