Lions Track & Field Bring Back Three First Place Trophies from McDonnell Invite

Samuel Yaro Wins 400 Meters and Claims Fastest Time in Nation

The Lindenwood travel and field team traveled to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the John McDonnell Invitational this weekend and came back with three first place trophies and two new school records, including one that is currently the fastest time in the nation.

Senior Samuel Yaro got off to fast start in the 400 meters, and held off a loaded field to win the 400 meters in a time of 46.56.  The final heat included a pair of Arkansas Razorbacks, and the 400 meter runner-up in the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship from Pittsburg State.  Yaro set a new school record and his time is currently the fastest in the nation.

Jacob Opdahl continued his terrific javelin season with dominating opening throw of 63.54 meters to set the standard for the competition, then bested that with a throw of 64.74 meters, which was almost 2 meters than the closet competitor. Opdahl has won both of the javelin events he has entered so far in the young outdoor season.

On the women's side, Olivia Alexandre won the 400 meter hurdles besting runners from Drake, BYU, Nebraska and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in her heat to set a new personal best with a time of 1:01.06 which vaults her to third place in school history. Martina Martinez raced in the second heat of the 400 hurdles and won her race by over 2 seconds and finished 5th overall.

Rachael Morrison, who finished third in the 1500 meters, set a new school record in a time of 4:32.74.  Her time broke the old record that was set in 2106 by nearly 5 seconds.
