The Lindenwood women's golf team closed out the Jan Weaver Invitational on Sunday, finishing in third place. The Lions were two strokes back of second, while
Andrea Alvarez finished tied for fifth.
OVERVIEW
Lindenwood shot a 314 as a team to open the tournament, led by
Andrea Alvarez who carded a two-over 74. The native of Mexico shot a one-under on the back nine with the help of three birdies which paced the squad. Coming in just behind her was
Laura Sanchez who fired a 77, as she shot an even par on the front nine during her round. That score put the Lions in third place heading into round two.
Lindenwood carded a 318 as a team in the second round, paced by
Paula Mariana Sanchez with a 75. Her round consisted of a team-high three birdies. Alvarez and
Laura Sanchez each shot an 80, while
Jamie Daniels finished with an 83. Rounding out the lineup was
Rumbidzai Chisango with an 85. After two rounds, Lindenwood sat in fourth place.
The Lions saved their best round for last, improving their team score by 18 strokes overall, registering a 300, which is Lindenwood's lowest round of the season to date. Leading the way was
Andrea Alvarez who shot a 73 with the help of all pars on the back nine and 13 overall.
Paula Mariana Sanchez also had nine pars on the final nine holes as she recorded a 74.
Laura Sanchez ended her round with a 76, while
Jamie Daniels came in just behind her with a 77. Overall,
Paula Mariana Sanchez tied for second most pars during the tournament with 35.
