TOPEKA, KAN. – On Friday and Saturday, track and field competed at the Washburn Open, held at Washburn University. The Lions had a strong showing at the open, shattering program records, and setting new personal and season bests.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
200 Meter –
Sa'Nijah Houston placed third (24.30), setting a new personal best and recording the third-best time in program history.
Chanel Honeywell placed 13th, setting a new personal best, and recorded the ninth-best time in program history.
400 Meter –
Sa'Nijah Houston placed first (54.40), setting a new personal best, and would break the program record which was held by Olivia Alexandre (56.21) in 2022. Houston's time would also be recognized as the new meet record at the Washburn Open.
High Jump –
Mireya Simpson placed fourth (1.58m) and
Kinsey Dueker (1.53m) placed fifth in the high jump open bracket.
Pentathlon –
Kinsey Dueker placed seventh (3153 points).
4x400 –
Chanel Honeywell,
Gabby Russina,
Nyah Hope, and
Sa'Nijah Houston placed seventh (3:53.57).
NEW PERSONAL RECORDS
60 Meter –
Kristen Hendricks (7.93).
800 Meter –
Mireya Simpson (2:59.16).
5000 Meter –
Abby Anderson (20:11.25).
High Jump –
Kinsey Dueker (1.55m).
Pentathlon –
Joselyn Roe (1374 points). Also set new personal bests in the 800-meter, long jump, shot put, and 60-meter hurdles.
NEW SEASONAL BESTS
60 Meter –
Jyrah Powell (8.00).
