OZARK, Mo. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (3-1, 0-0 OVC) went 1-1 during their final day of the Missouri State Tournament after dropping to the home team Missouri State (4-0) in the first match and rebounding against Southwest Baptist (2-3) by a final of 5-0. The Lions ended the opening weekend of the season with a 3-1 record, tying their best start to a season (2023).
MATCH ONE
Lindenwood - 0
Missouri State - 5
During Day Two's first match, the Lions fell 0-5 against Missouri State. The Bears went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend with all five matches being sweeps. The fours pair of
Gabby Belcher and
Taylor Gentemann fell in two sets by scores of 21-9 and 21-18.
Rebecca Janke and
Aubrey Sheppard in the five also fell in two by scores of 21-14 and 21-14.
Missouri State's threes defeated
Kaelyn Putz and
Katie Bockhorst by scores of 21-14 and 21-12. Lindenwood's number one and two pairs went the distance in both pairing but ultimately fell in three sets.
Abby Jacobs and
Annalie McWhorter loss to the Bears by scores of 14-21, 21-18 and 7-15.
Nyah Wilson and Abby VanBurkirk also fell in three sets in the number one spot with scores of 21-16, 16-21 and 10-15.
MATCH TWO
Lindenwood - 5
Southwest Baptist - 0
Lindenwood's second and final match of the Missouri State Tournament saw the Lions rebound from earlier in the day capturing a 5-0 sweep of the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist. Lindenwood improved to 3-1 on the season after these results. It also marked the second time this weekend LU posted a 5-0 sweep.
Wilson and VanBuskirk improved to 3-1 on the season at the number one pair after taking down Southwest Baptist by scores of 21-14 and 21-13. It took an extra set but the two pair of Jacobs and McWhorter also won by as scores of 21-11, 16-21 and 16-14.
Putz and Bockhorst kept it going in the threes winning 21-17 and 21-14. They were followed by a 2-0 win by Gentemann and Belcher in the fours and Sheppard and Janke in the fives. Lindenwood moves to 2-1 all-time against Southwest Baptist.
