MARTIN, Tenn. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (8-9, 1-3 OVC) suffered two loses to close out the first Ohio Valley Conference Weekend of the season against Morhead State (9-7, 3-1 OVC) and UT Martin (11-6, 2-1 OVC) in Martin, Tenn. at the Skyhawks Beach Volleyball Complex. The Lions finished 1-3 overall this weekend.
MATCH ONE
Lindenwood - 2
Moehead State - 3
Saturday started off with a battle against Morehead State ultimately going in favor of the Eagles by a final score of 3-2. The fours of
Taylor Gentemann and
Gabby Belcher lost the first match in two sets by scores of 13-21 and 18-21.
Rebecca Janke and
Aubrey Sheppard picked up the first point of the Lions winning in three sets in the fives by scores of 20-22, 21-17 and 15-2.
Morehead State took a 2-1 lead after winning in the threes by scores of 21-11, 17-21 and 10-15.
Kaelyn Putz and
Katie Bockhorst battled for their third straight three set match of the weekend.
With both the ones and twos going on at the same time, Morehead State clinched the match in the ones as
Nyah Wilson and
Abby VanBuskirk suffered a three set loss by scores of 20-22, 21-19 and 12-15.
Abby Jacobs and
Annalie McWhorter did pick up a win in the twos by scores of 22-20 and 21-19.
MATCH TWO
Lindenwood - 0
UT Martin - 5
Lindenwood ended their weekend with a matchup against the host school UT Martin where they suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Skyhawks. Janke and Sheppard played a close battle in the fives losing in two sets by scores of 15-21 and 20-22.
Belcher and Gentemann also lost in two at the fours by scores of 9-21 and 13-21. The threes featuring Putz and Bockhorst lost by scores of 10-21 and 8-21. McWhorter and Jacobs battled in the two losing by scores of 15-21 and 16-21. The ones wrapped up the match in a competitive battle lasting three sets, but went the way of the Skyhawks as Wilson and VanBuskirk fell by scores of 21-17, 15-21 and 12-15.
Lindenwood will host their first match of the season at Evans Courts next Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 p.m. CT against OVC opponent Eastern Illinois. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
