Beach Volleyball Splits Final Two Matches In Clarksville, Tenn.

Lions earned a 3-2 victory over Austin Peay to start Saturday's action

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (6-6, 0-0 OVC) wrapped up their weekend at the Governors Classic in Clarksville, Tenn. with a 1-1 record on Saturday including a 3-2 victory over Austin Peay (2-7). Both matches went down to the wire on Saturday as the Lions wrapped up their final non-conference tournament with a 1-3 record through four matches.

Lindenwood started off Saturday's action with a 3-2 victory over Austin Peay to claim their first win this season against a Division I opponent. LU claimed the first point in the match after the fives pair of Rebecca Janke and Aubrey Sheppard won in two sets, both by scores of 21-15.

Gabby Belcher and Taylor Gentemann fell in a close three set match in the fours by scores of 14-21, 21-19 and 8-15. Kaelyn Putz and Katie Bockhorst responded in the threes helping the Lions take control of the match with a two set win. The pair posted scores of 21-14 and 21-15.

Annalie McWhorter and Abby Jacobs wrapped up the match in the twos with a convincing two set match with scores of 21-9 and 21-13. Abby VanBuskirk and Nyah Wilson fought tough in the ones but fell in three sets by scores of 21-18, 19-21 and 7-15.

Central Arkansas - 3


Central Arkansas won the first three pairs on Saturday as the Lions finished up the weekend with a 3-2 loss against Central Arkansas. The Lions drop to 0-3 season against the Sugar Bears. Janke and Sheppard fell in the fives by scores of 17-21 and 14-21. Gentemann and Belcher were swept in two sets in the fours by scores of 14-21 and 19-21.

In the three pairs, Bockhorst and Putz put up a fight in both of their sets but ultimately lost in two by scores of 18-21 and 24-26. McWhorter and Jacobs earned the Lions' first point with a two-set win in the twos with scores of 21-16 and 21-17. Wilson and VanBuskrik wrapped up their weekend with a win in the ones by scores of 21-13 and 21-18.

Lindenwood will have just a single match next weekend when they travel to Lebanon, Ill. to take on McKendree on Saturday, March 15th at 1:00 p.m. CT. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
