Beach Volleyball Starts OVC Weekend With A 1-1 Record

Lions defeated Tennessee Tech 3-2 to open up Friday's action

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (12-10, 4-4 OVC) went 1-1 at the opening day of the Ohio Valley Conference Weekend on the campus of Morehead State in Morehead, Ky. The Lions were able to defeat Tennessee Tech (3-16, 1-7 OVC) during the first match before losing to Chattanooga (21-5, 8-0 OVC) to end Friday's action.

Lindenwood started Friday's action with a win over Tennessee Tech by a final score of 3-2. It came down to the final match at the number two pairs as the Lions escaped with a victory continuing their four-match win streak.

Aubrey Sheppard and Gabby Belcher started out the morning with a two set victory in the number four pairs. The duo finished with scores of 21-16 and 21-11. The Golden Eagles tied the match at 1-1 with a three set nail-bitter in the fives with Rebecca Janke and Lexi Menne losing in three sets by scores of 21-18, 19-21 and 11-15.

Tennessee Tech went ahead 2-1 with a two set win in the three pairs as Abby VanBuskirk and Taylor Gentemann fell by scores of 17-21 and 19-21. Abby Jacobs and Annalie McWhorter were able to tie the match at 2-2 with a three set win in the ones with scores of 22-20, 16-21 and 15-6.

Coming down the wire, the number two duo of Nyah Wilson and Katie Bockhorst secured the Lions' fourth OVC win of the season after winning in two sets by scores of 21-15 and 21-19.

During Lindenwood's second match of the day, the Lions fell to last year's OVC Champions Chattanooga by a score of 5-0. After the match, the Lions fell to 4-4 during conference play and will need to split tomorrow's matches to tie last year's OVC record at 5-5.

Myah Hough and Sienna King made their debut at the fives losing in two sets by scores of 19-21 and 12-21. Belcher and Sheppard also lost in the fours in a close two set match by scores of 1-21 and 23-25.

The Mocs locked up the match in the third pairs after VanBuskirk and Gentemann lost in two sets by scores of 14-21 and 13-21. Wilson and Bockhorst (10-21 and 18-21) in the twos and Jacobs and McWhorter (13-21 and 14-21) also lost in the twos and ones respectively.

Lindenwood closes out the regular season on Saturday starting at 7:00 a.m. CT when they battle UT Martin to start the day. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
