Beach Volleyball Ended Their Regular Season On Saturday With Two Close Loses

Lions will now await their seed at the OVC Tournament next week

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (12-12, 4-6) dropped their final two regular season matches of the season at the second Ohio Valley Conference Weekend of the season with losses against UT Martin (21-8, 6-3 OVC) and the host school Morehead State (14-9, 7-2 OVC). The Lions will now await their seed for the OVC Tournament which starts next Thursday, April 24th in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Lindenwood started out Saturday's double header with a 5-0 loss at 7:00 a.m. CT against the Skyhawks of UT Martin. Martin was able to take the regular season series from the Lions, both finishing with a result of 5-0. Abby VanBuskirk and Taylor Gentemann were the first pair to drop on Saturday at the fours by scores of 21-18, 10-21, and 10-15.

Myah Hough and Sienna King also went to three sets in the five pairs but fell by scores of 18-21, 21-15 and 11-15. Aubrey Sheppard and Gabby Belcher now moved to the three pair suffered a two-set loss by scores of 11-21 and 16-21.

The ones duo of Abby Jacobs and Annalie McWhorter made it tough on the Skyhawks in the first set, but fell by a score of 20-22. They ultimately loss in two sets by a final set score of 12-21. Nyah Wilson and Katie Bockhorst rounded out the match with the Lions' third three set loss, this one coming at the two pairs. The duo fell by final scores of 14-21, 21-17 and 7-15.

In match two of Saturday's action, the Lions' come back came up just short falling against Morehead State by a final score of 3-1. The Eagles scored the first three points of the match, before the Lions final two pairs both picked up wins in their respective matches.

VanBuskirk and Gentemann were the first pair for the Lions to fall against MSU by final scores of 16-21 and 12-21 in the four pairs. Hough and King both went three sets for the second straight match at the fives but fell by scores of 21-19, 21-23 and 13-15. Sheppard and Belcher also lost in the threes by scores of 15-21 and 17-21.

Lindenwood's top two pairs did pick up a set of victories to end the match helping the Lions end the weekend on a strong note. Jacobs and McWhorter started the ones off with a close three set victory by scores of 17-21, 21-13 and 15-10. Wilson and Bockhorst closed out the weekend with a nail-bitter in the twos as they pulled off the three set win by scores of 21-18, 14-21 and 20-18.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend for the OVC Tournament hosted by Chattanooga. The action starts on Thursday, April 24th. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
