Men's Golf Takes Its First Swings Of 2009-2010

The Lindenwood men's golf team started its 2009-2010 season this week at the Missouri Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The Lions improved significantly in each round and finished third out of 16 schools in Missouri from the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II and NAIA level.

Lindenwood was seventh after opening the event with a 307 and moved up after breaking 300 in round two with a 298. During Wednesday's final round, Lindenwood had the best score of the day, shooting a 288.

The Lions finished with a three-round score of 893, one shot behind runner-up Drury. Central Missouri won the title with an 880.

Individually, Lindenwood had a balanced effort led by Richard Docherty's eighth-place finish. Docherty was consistent with rounds of 74, 73 and 75 for a 222. Paul Colditz also had a top ten showing after tying for tenth with a 223. His tournament was highlighted by a two-under 70 in the third round.

Danny Jones tied for 15th with a 225, including back-to-back 74s to conclude the event. Lourens Kleynhaus had the low round for Lindenwood with a three-under 69 on Wednesday. Overall, he finished 22nd with a 227. Morgan Leigh did not finish the tournament but shot a 75 during the second round to help the team score.
