The Lindenwood men's golf team fired a low round of 296 in the final round of the Lindenwood Invitational to come back and snag the victory by four strokes over MIAA opponent Central Missouri on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions round two score was the only team score under 300 for the day.
After round one, the Lions turned in a team score of 310, placing them in sixth in the 14-team tournament. Central Missouri carded a 292 as a team to put themselves in first-place overall and 18 strokes ahead of the Lions.
Four Lions turned in sub-80 rounds on day one, led by
Oscar Isacsson's 75. Greg MacAuley and Erik Isacsson turned in a pair of 78's, and
Adam Salisbury came in with a 79.
Greg Phillips rounded out the Lion squad with an 80.
Propelled by a 72 by MacAuley and a pair of 73's by the Isacsson brothers, the Lions improved by 14 strokes to take the overall team lead on day two. Lindenwood surpassed three nationally-ranked teams (Central Oklahoma – No. 7, Central Missouri – No. 10, and Washburn – No. 25) on its way to victory. Phillips turned in a round two 78 and Salisbury rounded out the top five with an 82.
Oscar Isacsson finished in a tie for third overall with a two-day total of 148, just two strokes behind Central Missouri's Cy Moriz and Robby Hughey for first. Moriz won the playoff hole to earn medalist honors. MacAulay finished in eighth overall with a 150.
Northeastern State finished in third, four strokes behind the Mules. Central Oklahoma finished in fourth and Washburn rounded out the top-five with a two-day score of 618.
Six individuals competed for the Lions at their home tournament, with John Smock coming in 16
th place with a two-day total of 153 (76-77).
Ryan Amos turned in a 158 (78-80),
Patrick Harrell recorded a 162 (82-80),
Jordan Johns and William Feltmate each carded a two-day score of 170 and
Matt Loewen rounded out the individuals with scores of 84 and 87.
The Lions will take a week off before traveling to the TVA Credit Union Classic hosted by North Alabama on Oct. 15 and 16.
