The Lindenwood men's golf team placed fifth at the NSU Golf Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The two day, three-round tournament featured 18 competing teams and 98 individual golfers.
The Lions opened the tournament on Monday with team scores of 282 and 280, respectively. After the first 36 holes, Lindenwood was in second-place, four strokes ahead of third-place Southwestern Oklahoma State. During the third-round, the Lions posted a team score of 297, giving them a three-round total of 859. Lindenwood completed the tournament in fifth-place, three strokes behind third-place Central Oklahoma, and two strokes in back of fourth-place Central Missouri. Arkansas Tech won the tournament by two strokes over second-place Southwestern Oklahoma State.
For the third consecutive tournament,
Yente Van Doren was the top performer for Lindenwood. Van Doren finished tied for sixth-place, after posting a total score of 209. During the second round, Van Doren fired a 68, tying for his lowest round of the season. Van Doren tied for the tournament lead with 13 birdies.
Koke Edo Maeso also shot a 68 during the second round of play, and finished the tournament tied for 10th-place. Edo Maeso finished three strokes behind Van Doren, shooting a 212 during the tournament. Edo Maeso registered a team-high 35 pars, one ahead of teammate Juan Torrente, who finished play with 34 pars.
Torrente and
Colton Wyllie shot identical three round scores of 222 and tied for 50th-place.
Also, competing for Lindenwood was
Ryan Dyck who completed play tied for 60th-place after finishing with a score of 224.
The Lions will be in action again on Sep. 26-27 for the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational. The tournament will take place in Monkey Island, Okla. and will be held at the Shangri-La Country Club.
