The Lindenwood men's golf team opened the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a third-place finish at The Arch Cup in Eureka, Mo. The tournament was hosted by Maryville University and was played at the Legends Golf Club.
The Lions opened the two-round tournament with a first-round score of 302, placing them fifth after 18 holes of play. Lindenwood improved its team score by 18 strokes during round two, as the team posted a score of 284, moving into third-place. Tournament champions, Missouri-St. Louis, completed the competition with a two-round total score of 561. The Lions finished 12 strokes behind second-place William Woods, and seven strokes in front of fourth-place Drury.
Yente Van Doren led the way for the Lions, finishing tied for second-place out of the 60 competing golfers. Van Doren began his day with an opening round 71, followed by an impressive score of 68 during round number two. His two-round score of 139, placed him five strokes behind the individual leader, Markus Lindberg of Missouri-St. Louis, who won the tournament with a score of 134.
Juan Torrente was the next highest finisher for Lindenwood, securing sole possession of 11th-place. Torrente opened with a first-round 78, before firing a 69 during round two, for a final score of 147. Finishing one stroke behind Torrente, was
Ryan Dyck. Dyck tied for 12th-place after rounds of 76 and 72.
Koke Edo Maeso and
Tyler McKay improved their second-round scores by two and three strokes, respectively. Edo Maeso improved upon his first-round 77 with a second-round 75, while McKay bested his first-round 79 with a second-round 76.
The Lions had six golfers;
Brad Currier,
Garrett Blair,
Colton Wyllie,
Christian Argyros, Alejandro Canazares, and
Justin Stacer, compete as individuals. Currier and Blair each finished in the top-20. Currier finished the tournament tied for 14th-place with a two-round score of 149, while Blair completed play tied for 19th-place with a final score of 150.
The Lions will return to the links on Sep. 12-13 for the Nebraska-Kearney Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney, Neb.
