The Lindenwood men's golf team opened its spring schedule with a sixth-place finish at the Las Vegas Desert Classic on Monday afternoon. The tournament, played at Primm Valley Golf Club in Nipton, Calif., was originally scheduled for three rounds, but was shortened to two rounds due to windy conditions.
The event featured 18 competing teams and 96 individual golfers. Lindenwood opened the tournament with a first-round score of 293, before shooting a 281 during its final round of play, for a two-round total of 574. The Lions finished the tournament in sixth place, four strokes in front of seventh-place La Verne. Lindenwood's second-round score of 281 was the fifth-lowest score during the second day of competition. West Florida completed the tournament in first place, shooting a 548 over the two rounds, finishing five strokes ahead of second-place California Baptist.
Juan Torrente Corbett finished tied for 11th-place, the highest individual finisher for Lindenwood. Torrente posted back-to-back scores of 70, totaling a 140 for the tournament.
Yente Van Doren tied for 18th-place, finishing the event with a total score of 143.
Ryan Dyck came in three strokes behind Van Doren, ending the tournament with a total score of 146.
Brad Currier competed as an individual and tied for 48nd place, following his final score of 149.
Alejandro Canizares and
Christian Argyros each tied for 53rd place with identical scores of 150. Canazares had a second-round score of 69, the lowest individual score Lindenwood had during the tournament.
Lindenwood will return to the links on March 13-14 in Russellville, Ark. for the Dave Falconer Classic. The tournament will be hosted by Arkansas Tech at Chamberlyne Country Club.
