The Lindenwood men's golf team coasted to a first-place finish at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite on Sunday afternoon at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa. The Lions have now won two of their last three tournaments during spring competition.
Lindenwood shot a 307 during the first round of competition on Saturday, and was tied for the lead with Minot State after 18 holes of play. The Lions shot a tournament-low score of 296 on Sunday, helping the team build a 19-stroke lead over second-place Minot State. The tournament featured eight competing teams, and 57 individual golfers.
Alejandro Canazares completed the tournament as the top individual finisher. Canazares shot a 72 during the opening round, before firing a final round 70. Canazares tied for the tournament lead with seven birdies.
Yente Van Doren finished two strokes behind Canazares, securing sole possession of second place. Van Doren shot a 68 on Sunday afternoon, tied for the lowest single-round individual score of the tournament. Van Doren posted seven birdies and 23 pars during his two rounds.
Ryan Dyck landed one stroke in back of Van Doren, finishing in third place. Dyck had scores of 73 and 72 to hold a comfortable six-stroke lead over the tournament's fourth-place finisher. Dyck led all individual golfers with 25 pars, and was one of three competitors to register an eagle.
Tyler McKay tied for seventh place, his best finish of the season. McKay had his best round of the season on Saturday, shooting a 74 during the first 18 holes. McKay had four birdies during his two rounds.
Brad Currier and Juan Torrente finished tied for 17th place and tied for 21st place, respectively. Currier shot a 158 over his two rounds, while Torrente finished with a score of 159.
Christian Argyros finished one stroke behind Torrente, tying for 25th place.
Garrett Blair tied for 36th place.
Lindenwood will return to the links on April 18-19 at the Fort Hays State Invitational. The tournament will be held at Smoky Hills Country Club in Hays, Kan.
