The Lindenwood men's golf team completed the MIAA Championships in third place on Wednesday afternoon at Sycamore Ridge in Spring Hill, Kan. Lindenwood has now finished in the top-three in seven of its 12 events this season, including a stretch of five straight dating back to March 14.
Yente Van Doren was Lindenwood's top individual finisher, tying for third place and earning a selection to the All-MIAA squad.
Round One:
Lindenwood posted a first-round score of 309, tying for fourth place with Missouri Western and Southwest Baptist. The Lions sit seven strokes behind Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma who are both tied for second place. Washburn leads the 11-team field with a score of 299.
Yente Van Doren completed the first round with a team-leading score of 74, tying for sixth place. Van Doren fired three birdies to accompany his 10 pars during the first round.
Juan Torrente shot a 77, tying for 17th place among the 55 competing golfers. Torrente had a team-leading four birdies on Monday.
Alejandro Canazres,
Brad Currier, and
Ryan Dyck were all separated by one stroke. Canazares and Currier tied for 29th place with identical scores of 79, while Dyck shot an 80 to tie for 35th place.
Round Two:
Lindenwood shot a total team score of 288 on Tuesday, lowering its score by 21 strokes after a first-round score of 309. Lindenwood's mark of 288 was the lowest team score of the round, and helped the Lions leap into sole possession of third place. Lindenwood has a two-round score of 597, and holds a one-stroke lead over fourth-place, Washburn. Central Missouri sits in first place at 593, holding a one-stroke edge over second-place, Central Oklahoma.
Van Doren, Canazres, and Dyck each shot second-round scores of 71 to lead Lindenwood on the tournament's second day. With a two-round total score of 145, Van Doren is tied for second place. Canazares is tied for the 16th spot with a score of 150, while Dyck has a a score of 151 and is tied for 19th place.
Currier and Torrente are separated by one stroke overall, and are tied for 27th and 31st place, respectively.
Round Three:
Lindenwood concluded the tournament with a final round score of 293, bringing its three-round total to 890. The Lions fell three strokes behind second-place Washburn, and edged fourth-place Central Missouri by a four-stroke margin. Central Oklahoma won the tournament with a total score of 884.
Van Doren had 11 pars, two birdies, and one eagle during his final round to tie finish tied for third place. Van Doren posted a final round score of 73, and was the only Lion to record an eagle during the event.
Dyck tied for 14th place, shooting a 74 during his final round. Dyck had 12 pars and two birdies on Wednesday.
Torrente wrapped up play with a final round 72, tying for 19th place. Torrente was the tournament's overall leader with 14 birdies, including six on Wednesday.
Currier and Canazares finished separated by one stroke, with three-round scores of 228 and 229, respectively. Currier tied for 21st place and led Lindenwood with 35 pars, while Canazares finished tied for 23rd place.
Lindenwood will learn its NCAA postseason fate next week when the tournament field is announced on Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
