Lindgren, Men’s Golf Finish First at MIAA Championships

The Lindenwood men's golf team secured the first MIAA Tournament championship in its program history on Wednesday afternoon at the Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Spring Hill, Kan. The first-place finish at the event also boosted Lindenwood into first place in the MIAA team standings, helping the Lions capture the MIAA regular season title.
 
Lindenwood's Markus Lindgren earned the tournament's individual championship, firing a three-round score of 212 to narrowly edge teammate, Yente Van Doren by just one stroke. Van Doren landed in second place at the event with a total score of 213.
 
Lindgren and Van Doren each earned all-MIAA honors at the event. In addition, Lindgren was selected as the MIAA Freshman of the Year and Van Doren was tabbed as the MIAA Golfer of the Year. Lindenwood head coach, Derek Schuab was tabbed as the MIAA Coach of the Year.
 
The Lions posted scores of 297, 277, and 292 during their three rounds of play for a total team score of 866. Lindenwood's score of 866 was its third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The Lions edged second-place, Central Missouri by an impressive 13-stroke total.

For Lindgren, the first-place finish is his second individual championship of the season. Van Doren registered his fourth top-five finish. Both Lindgren and Van Doren totaled 35 pars each over their three rounds. The duo also completed the event by each shooting -7 on the par-5 holes.

Currier had a team-leading 11 birdies over his three rounds, tied for the second most of any competing golfer.

Following it's first-place finish at the MIAA Championships, Lindenwood has earned an automatic bid into the Central Region Tournament. The entire field for 2018 NCAA Division II Championship will be announced on Friday at 5:00 p.m. 
 
The 2018 Central Region Tournament will be held on May 7-9 at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.
