In one of the mostly closely contested matches of the entire season, the Lions were upended by Teacher's Terminators 9-8 Thursday evening at the Lindenwood Billiards Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
For the first time ever, Lindenwood was bested in 15-ball competition 284-280, so a key two points went to the visitors and the Lions were never able to regain a lead, although they did make a late push by winning every doubles match-up.
Head Coach
Mark Wilson expected a tight match.
"I knew going in to this we were vulnerable to lose to a veteran pro team yet felt confident in our players," he said. "Everyone gave 100 percent throughout and never quit, which is a testimonial to the character of our squad."
Andreas Madsen paced the home team with a perfect record in singles and doubles and a score of 53 in 15-ball.
Robbie Patrick,
Russell Carter, and
Taylor Hansen all went 1.5-1 in match play to help the Lindenwood cause.
With the loss, the Lions dropped to 12-4 on the season. They'll return to the tables for a series of collegiate matches hosted by the University of Illinois April 13-14. Lindenwood is scheduled to face Purdue at 1 p.m. and Southern Illinois – Edwardsville at 6 p.m. on Saturday, then take on the Illini at 2 p.m. Sunday. All matches will be played at the Memorial Union in Champaign – Urbana, Illinois.
