Bentein Places Fifth, Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Brickyard Invitational

The Lindenwood men's golf team completed its first tournament of the 2020-21 season, as the Lions took seventh at the Brickyard Invitational on Tuesday in Indianapolis, Ind.  The Lions posted scores of 310, 298, and 297, while Liam Bentein finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place.
 
DAY TWO OVERVIEW
The Lions were led by Bentein as he tied the low round for the tournament with a 67 (-5) on Tuesday.  Bentein rattled off eight birdies in the third round, which was tied for the third-most birdies in the tournament with 13.
 
Adam Bain tallied 10 pars in the final round, which made it 36 for the three-round invitational.  Bain posted a 77 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 28thJoe MacNeil shot his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, as he shot three-over par for a final score of 75 in the third round.
 
Lindenwood completed the tournament with a total score of 905, just five points back from Tiffin University.  UIndy claimed first place after shooting an 853 across the three rounds.
 
DAY ONE OVERVIEW
MacNeil led the Lions with a 76 in the first round.  MacNeil rattled off four birdies, including back-to-back on holes 14 and 15.  Gonzalo Gracia tallied three birdies in the opening round, as he scored a two on the par-3 17th hole.  Bain shot a 77 in the first round, as he tied for the team lead with 10 pars in the opening round.
 
Bentein was dialed in for the second round on Monday, as he started off with seven pars.  Bentein rattled off three birdies in his next five holes to jump into contention.  The freshman from Belgium ended his round with a 70, landing himself a spot in the top-20 after the first day.
 
Bain compiled 16 pars in round two, as his scorecard showed a 72 after posting one birdie and one bogey.  Lindenwood finished the day in ninth place after posting a team score of 608.  UIndy leads the tournament with a team score of 568.  Bain tied the tournament lead of 26 pars after the first day, while Bentein tied for fifth among all players with an average score of 2.88 on par-3 holes.
