The Lindenwood men's golf team wrapped up its 2022 spring season with a sixth-place finish at the GLVC Championships on Saturday from Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis. The Lions shot 898 as a team across three rounds, including the fourth-best Saturday total of 288.
Matthew Frith paced the Lions for the fourth straight tournament, sharing sixth place on the individual leaderboard with four other players at 217 (+1) after a 4-under round three, the best of the day. The Sydney, Australia, native's 217 is the best three-round tournament of his rookie campaign, while his third-round 68 matches a career-best.Â
Liam Bentein also finished in the top 20 for Lindenwood, carding a 223 across 54 holes.
Missouri-St. Louis senior Joel Sylven (-6) claimed the individual medal, edging out UIndy's Oliver Mast (-5) by a single stroke. The top-two individuals led their team to the top two positions on the team leaderboard, as well, with Southern Indiana (880) and McKendree (883) earning semifinal bids for Sunday's match-style play. The GLVC mimics the NCAA in determining its champion, with top-seeded UMSL facing fourth-seeded McKendree tomorrow morning, while second-seeded UIndy will battle third-seeded Southern Indiana. The winners of each match will then square off in similar fashion for the league crown.
The Lions finished just six strokes shy of fifth place, as Missouri S&T garnered the top-five position.
