In its first ever OVC Championships, the Lindenwood men's golf team finished in fourth place with a total of 882. A strong last round pushed the Lions into match play.
OVERVIEW
The Lions shot a 298 as a team in the opening round, one shot back of fourth place Southern Indiana.
Matthew Frith paced Lindenwood during the first 18, carding a one-under 71, aided by a team best four birdies.
Renato Filho shot a 74, sitting in a tie for 14th after the first round. The native of Brazil used two birdies to get to that score.
The Lions improved on their first round score by two strokes, compiling a 296 as a team across the second 18. Once again, Frith paced the team with an even par 72, while
Tyler May and
Renato Filho fired 74's. May recorded an eagle on the par 5 15th. Rounding out the lineup on day two was
Liam Bentein who shot a 76 and
John Gardner who carded a 77. Headed into the final day of stroke play, Lindenwood sat four back of fifth place.
In the final round of stroke play, the Lions shot their best round, posting a 288. Both Frith and May shot under par. The day played out as a battle between Lindenwood and UT Martin for that fourth and final spot to move onto match play. The Lions put the pressure on the Skyhawks after all five Lindenwood players birdied the 18th. This pushed Lindenwood into the fourth spot, two strokes ahead of UT Martin.
For his efforts, Frith made the all-tournament team.
