The Lindenwood men's golf team opened the spring season this week at the World Golf Village Collegiate in St. Augustine, Fla. The Lions finished in 15th with a team score of 899.
OVERVIEW
The Lions began the tournament with an opening round 299, led by
Matthew Frith who carded a one-under 71. For Frith, it was his second lowest round of the season, which included 13 pars and three birdies. This helped the Australia native sit in a tie for 10
th in a field of 109 after the first round. Coming in just behind him was
Tyler May, who was competing as an individual. May finished his first round with an even par 72. He did most work on par 3s, shooting an average of 2.75, the third best mark in the field. After the opening 18, Lindenwood sat in 15
th place.
Lindenwood carded a 303 as a team during the second round, paced by
Brennan Strubberg with a one-over 73. He used the help of four birdies to get to that score, which was tied for the most among Lindenwood golfers in the round. Coming in just behind him was Frith, who shot a three-over 75. After two rounds, the Lions remained in 15
th.
The Lions put together their best team score in the last round, firing a 298.
Mackenzie Holmes carded a two-under 70. Holmes was helped by strong play on the front nine, as he shot three-under. In total, he had five birdies during the final 18. Frith finished just behind him with a one-under 71. He also did well on the front nine with four birdies. Frith finished in a tie for 16
th, best among Lindenwood golfers.
