Men's Golf Concludes Season With T-5th Finish at OVC Championships

The Lindenwood men's golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the OVC Championships in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The Lions compiled a team score of 901, coming up just short of match play.

OVERVIEW
Lindenwood opened the first round with a team score of 307, six shots back of fourth place. The Lions were led by Matthew Frith and Renato Filho who each carded a two-over 74, putting them in a tie for ninth overall after the first 18. After round one, Filho was tied for the best mark in the field in par 3 scoring, averaging 3.00, while Frith was third in the field with 14 pars. Coming in just behind them was Liam Bentein who fired a 77 and had a team best three birdies across the opening 18 holes. Rounding out the lineup was Gabriel Lindahl with an 82 and Juan Ballester who recorded an 84.

The Lions improved their team score by 11 strokes in round two, carding a 296. Leading the way was Lindahl who bounced back with an even par 72. The native of Sweden shot one-under on the back nine.   Bentein and Filho came in just behind him, each shooting a 74 respectively. Bentein used five birdies, including three-straight to close out the front nine to reach his score. Filho played solid golf with 14 pars, and through two rounds, had 29, the third most in the field. Frith shot a 76 and Tyler May rounded out the lineup with a 77. After two rounds, the Lions sat in seventh place, but were just two shots back of fifth.

In the third round, Lindenwood shot a 298 paced by Filho who carded a final round 71. The native of Brazil shot a one-under on the back nine that included an eagle on 17. Frith registered the second-best team score after shooting a 75. Lindahl and Bentein each compiled a 76. Lindahl led Lindenwood with three birdies during the final round. Rounding out the lineup was May with a 77. He also recorded an eagle during his round, registering a three on the par 5 7th. Overall, Bentein had the second most birdies in the field with 11, while Filho finished with 41 pars, which was second most.
