Lindenwood Sports Hall of Fame
The equestrian program existed from 1934 to 1981. The program brought many students to Lindenwood, and it hosted an annual horse show from 1962-1981. At its high point, Lindenwood owned 40 horses. This allowed students who didn't have horses to still participate in the program. Lindenwood also hosted summer equestrian events for non-students, which brought many prospective students to campus. In 1954, Lindenwood Sports Hall of Fame member Fern Bittner took charge of the program and continued to run it until it was discontinued. In 1968, Lindenwood built a 40-stall stable for the horses. This is now the Lindenwood Field House. When the program ended in 1981, it was the only equestrian program in the United States that taught men.
