The 2000 women's soccer team was arguably the best Lindenwood female athletics program that competed in the NAIA. The Lady Lions cruised through the regular season with a perfect 16-0-0 record and won the HAAC regular season championship. The postseason started for Lindenwood as the team won the HAAC Tournament and NAIA Region V Tournament. At the NAIA National Tournament, Lindenwood was seeded No. 1 and advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win over St. Thomas, a 3-1 win over St. Mary, and a 1-0 victory over Azusa Pacific. The championship match against Simon Fraser turned out to be one of the most exciting finals in college soccer history. Both teams played scoreless soccer for regulation and four overtime periods. Finally, late in the fifth overtime, Simon Fraser scored and Lindenwood ended up with a second-place national finish.

Lindenwood, which was coached by Kevin Kilcullin, finished the year with a 23-1-0 record. Six players from the team received All-American honors, and four were named to the NAIA All-Tournament team.
